- 1. Confirm the goods are genuine and branded. Insist on full origin traceability. If a supplier can't tell you where stock came from, walk away.
- 2. Check the dating. Get the exact best-before or expiry dates in writing, not a vague "short-dated". Match the remaining shelf life to how fast your channel actually sells.
- 3. Review batch and lot data. Genuine stock carries batch numbers. They matter for traceability and for any recall.
- 4. Get a real packing list. Cases per pallet, units per case, total quantity and weight — confirmed, not estimated.
- 5. Verify export documentation. Commercial invoice, packing list and certificates should be ready for clean customs clearance.
- 6. Inspect packaging and language. Check the artwork, language and labelling suit your target market and meet local rules.
- 7. Compare the landed price, not the headline. Factor freight, duties and remaining shelf life before deciding the discount is worth it.
Red flags to avoid
- No traceability or vague answers about origin.
- Pressure to pay in full upfront with no documentation.
- Dates or quantities that "will be confirmed later".
- Prices that look too good to be true — they usually are.
